Ms. Liz Weder-Principal

Ms. Liz Weder begins her first year as principal at Highland Middle School and 18th year in education. Previously, Ms. Weder has served as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director since the fall of 2016. Prior to becoming an administrator, Ms. Weder taught 7th grade geography at HMS, and served as a coach for both softball and volleyball during her career.  Ms. Weder’s educational background includes a Masters's degree in Educational Administration, earned in 2012, and a Bachelor's of Science degree in History, along with a minor in English, and certification in secondary education, graduating summa cum laude in 2000, from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Ms. Weder enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. Ms. Weder states, “HMS is my home. I am honored to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on kids working in the best community that anyone could be a part of. I am passionate about delivering the highest quality education surrounded by a positive environment that involves students, parents, and staff working together to achieve a common goal. At HMS we are truly committed to “Doing What’s Best for Kids.”

Mr. Matt Scheibel - Assistant Principal

This is Mr. Scheibel’s twelfth year in education and his first year as assistant principal/ athletic director of Highland Middle School. He is a product of the Highland School District’s dedication to high standards and strong educational practices and brings a depth of knowledge and experience with him. Prior to administration, Mr. Scheibel taught Science, Physical Education, Speech, Writing, Vocabulary, Dramatic Arts, and STEM at St. Rose District 14-15. He’s also worked for Regional Office of Education #13 for the past few years as a Foundational Service Provider preparing teachers for the Next Generation Science Standards.  He is looking forward to joining the HMS family and is excited to take on a new set of challenges in administration. “I’m really excited to be joining the Highland Middle School team. I think Highland has some of the best teachers around, and I’m ready to share my experiences with them and learn from them as well,” he states. Mr. Scheibel lives in Highland with his wife and four children.
